Unparalleled Research Excellence

In research output, it ranks first for publications in top 1% Journal Percentiles by CiteScore Percentile, with a total of 125 papers published in 2023, surpassing its peers in the UAE, according to data from Scopus. This represents an increase of 40% over the year 2022 when Khalifa University had published 89 research papers in top 1% journals, demonstrating a consistent increase in research excellence. Khalifa University also leads in Top 5% Journal Percentiles by CiteScore Percentile, publishing a total of 532 papers for the same year, an increase of 39.6% over 2022.
Industry-academia partnership inspires innovation and one of the key foundations for developing skills and transferring knowledge. Khalifa University has a collaboration with Italy’s ELT Group for a Center of Excellence in in Electromagnetic Spectrum (EMS) Applications, and another with Creo Medical of the UK to synergize the company’s Intellectual Property (IP) estate with Khalifa University's research expertise.
Among the research centers, the Research & Innovation Center for Graphene and 2D Materials’ (RIC2D) has entered into multiple partnerships. These include a collaboration with Swiss pipeline technology company Purapipe for high-performance composite transportation pipelines, with LOLC Advanced Technologies to cooperate in identifying opportunities in advanced materials innovation and exploring UAE market potential. Among others are Sweden’s Graphmatech AB, for a strategic framework for cooperation in advanced graphene-engineered materials and manufacturing processes, and with Graphene Composites (GC) to accelerate the development and commercialization of graphene-based technologies.
Khalifa University consistently demonstrates its status as a pioneering institution in driving innovation through its research avenues. In research output, Khalifa University has published over 11,600 articles, more than 5.500 Conference papers, 770-plus Books and Book chapters with 349,930 Citations that represent 18.1 per publication.
Khalifa University also has its publications in top 10% journal percentiles that stands at 36.9 assessed by CiteScore Percentile.
As a comprehensive research, innovation and enterprise-intensive institution, Khalifa University’s offerings reach students through three colleges, a virtual research institute, 12 research centers planning a wide spectrum of low and High Technology Readiness-level (HTR) projects, seven research groups and labs, and seven core labs that have state-of-the-art facilities, and 36 academic departments, covering a broad range of disciplines in science, engineering, medicine and life sciences.
