QS ImpACT's winner for ‘Climate Response Champion’ is Mayowa Oniosun from Nigeria. Through comprehensive climate education, approximately 400 youths have been empowered with actionable ideas and solutions to address the impacts of climate change in the Ikep Ikot Nkon community, located in Akwa Ibom State. The significance of educating the youth cannot be overstated; it is akin to shaping an entire generation. The impact of our education initiative reverberates long after its implementation, spanning over six months. By instilling knowledge and awareness in the younger generation, they are laying the foundation for sustainable change.
The project goes beyond mere instruction; it's a paradigm shift in how young minds, particularly secondary school students, envision their future. They are guiding them to seamlessly integrate their career aspirations with environmental consciousness. This innovative approach has already made a substantial impact, resonating with thousands of youths across more than ten vulnerable communities in the Niger Delta Region of Nigeria. By nurturing this environmentally conscious mindset, we are fostering a generation of leaders who are equipped to tackle the pressing challenges of climate change head-on.
