Universidad Panamericana (UP) is renowned for its strong academic programmes as seen from its top ranking in the region. What are some of the institution's innovative teaching methodologies or unique curriculum features that contribute to UP's reputation for educational excellence?

In our holistic approach to education, our Institute of Humanities fosters critical thinking and ethical reasoning through interdisciplinary studies, ensuring students develop a well-rounded perspective. Through the Talent Teacher Center, faculty members receive ongoing training in active methodologies, enhancing their ability to engage and inspire students effectively. Additionally, our emphasis on professional internships allows students to apply theoretical knowledge in real-world settings, bridging the gap between academia and industry. These innovative teaching methodologies and curriculum features not only contribute to UP's reputation for educational excellence but also prepare our students to become dynamic leaders capable of navigating the complexities of the modern world.

UP has impressively expanded beyond its business school roots. Can you elaborate on the university's strategic evolution and how it has diversified its academic offerings to become a leader in higher education?

We've diversified our academic offerings by establishing renowned institutes like the Institute of Humanities, which promotes interdisciplinary studies and fosters critical thinking. Furthermore, we've expanded our faculties to include fields such as Fine Arts, Applied Mathematics, Food Business Management, Quantitative Finance, Governance and Economics among others, catering to a wide range of student interests and industry demands. This strategic diversification has allowed us to attract top talent, both among faculty and students, and to establish partnerships with industry leaders, fostering innovation and research. Through this evolution, Universidad Panamericana has solidified its position as a comprehensive institution dedicated to academic excellence and social impact.

Modern education emphasises engaging students in the learning process. How does UP cultivate a student-centered learning environment that fosters critical thinking, collaboration and lifelong learning skills?

Our Connect UP model epitomises our commitment to student-centered learning. Through flexibility, students tailor their educational journey to their interests and career goals. Interdisciplinarity is woven into our curriculum, encouraging holistic thinking and problem-solving. Internationalisation opportunities, including COILS (Collaborative Online International Learning), broaden perspectives and cultivate global citizenship. Innovation is infused through initiatives like microcredentials, allowing students to acquire specialized skills aligned with industry demands. Our pedagogical approach prioritises active learning, promoting critical thinking, collaboration, and adaptability fostering these skills, Universidad Panamericana empowers students to thrive in an ever-evolving world, equipped with the tools for lifelong learning and meaningful contribution to society.

Can you describe a successful COIL experience at your university? How has COIL impacted your students' global awareness and intercultural competence?

We have completed 90 COILs in three years, advancing curricular internationalisation and educational innovation for students and faculty without the need to travel abroad.

A notable COIL might be the collaboration between Hospitality areas in the US and Mexico to improve the dairy agri-food industry by reducing energy and water costs in production, enhancing value chains, and supporting local enterprises. This resulted in an indexed article, two manuscripts, and two master's theses by participating students.

Other key examples could be: a COIL between humanities and business faculties in Peru and Mexico, examining tequila industry opportunities in both nations; or a project exploring real bakery brands' exports between Guatemala and Mexico, studying cultural practices and business models.

This methodology fosters interdisciplinarity, project-based education, social impact and the development of global competencies and soft skills, such as the ability to analyse other contexts, engage in intercultural dialogue and work in intercultural teams.

Collaboration is key to progress. Can you discuss some of the school's key partnerships with other universities, research institutions or industry leaders and how these partnerships benefit the university and its students?

In addition to nearly 200 international partners for Erasmus+ projects, dual degrees and student and faculty exchanges, our university has a significant partnership with the Columbus Association, created by the European Association of Universities (EUA) and the Association of Latin American Universities (AULA). Columbus is the first multilateral network of university executives, with 43 member universities in 14 countries and over 25 allied organisations. This partnership brings us annual seminars, workshops, and invitations to various international projects from the European Commission and the Ibero-American Program of Science and Technology for Development (CYTED). This collaboration strengthens our strategic fronts in research and teaching, key pillars of our institution.

As UP looks towards the future, what are its aspirations for academic excellence, innovation, and student development in the coming years?

As UP looks to the future, our aspirations are anchored in continuous improvement and holistic support. We continually measure our graduates' profiles to ensure they meet evolving industry standards and are prepared for jobs that do not yet exist. Our curriculum emphasises skills for the future, fostering adaptability and innovation. Comprehensive support from academic coordinators, dedicated advisors, the SMART student center, student life initiatives, and the Clinical Psychology Unit, among others, ensures our students' academic and personal well-being. We strive to create a dynamic learning environment that encourages critical thinking, creativity, and lifelong learning, preparing our students to thrive in a rapidly changing world. Our commitment is to nurture ethical and social responsible leaders who contribute positively to society.
