Peças do Amanhã:

Revolutionising Learning Through Play

By Krusha Khakhar, QS ImpACT

"Currently impacting over 1,045 students, "Peças do Amanhã" provides free board games to teachers, schools, and NGOs in underserved communities, ensuring accessibility regardless of financial constraints."

Education should ignite curiosity and creativity, yet for many students in Brazil’s public school system, lack of engagement and learning gaps make traditional learning a challenge. Ester Borges Frickes Ricardo, winner of the QS ImpACT Best Student SDG Project Award 2024, is changing that with her project, "Peças do Amanhã" (Pieces of Tomorrow).

A Game-Changer in Learning

"Peças do Amanhã" is an innovative educational project that uses board games to make learning more interactive and engaging for young students. Aligned with Brazil’s National Common Curricular Base (BNCC), these games help students grasp complex subjects easily, while developing critical thinking, problem-solving, and emotional resilience. By integrating play into education, the project offers an alternative to conventional teaching methods, making learning more inclusive and enjoyable.

Bridging Learning Gaps

Currently impacting over 1,045 students, "Peças do Amanhã" provides free board games to teachers, schools, and NGOs in underserved communities, ensuring accessibility regardless of financial constraints. The project goes beyond just distributing materials, it also trains educators to effectively incorporate the games into their classrooms, ensuring proper usage and a lasting impact.

Scaling Impact with Key Partnerships

Collaboration is key to the project’s success. Ester has joined forces with organisations like the Rio de Janeiro Municipal Education System and the Spectra Institute, which supports low-income autistic children to expand the reach of the project, ensuring that more students benefit from this engaging approach to education.

By reshaping how students engage with learning, "Peças do Amanhã" is directly contributing to SDG 4: Quality Education. With plans for further expansion, the project is proving that education doesn’t have to be one-size-fits-all. Learning can be made fun, interactive, and transformative for each student.
