The Brief
Jobs of tomorrow
What does the future of work look like in the UK?
STEM, health, education and business services are among the fastest-growing occupations for graduates in the UK, with each needing 1 million new workers by 2035, said Universities UK in a report. We take a closer look at the key highlights.
More than 11 million extra graduates will be needed to fill graduate jobs in the UK by 2035, according to a report by Universities UK released earlier this month. This is in addition to the 15.3 million graduates currently in the UK workforce.
The report, which draws from existing evidence and past records of graduate employment, aims to inform educators and policymakers to "provide the pipeline of talent that employers will need".
Almost 90 percent of new jobs by 2035 in the UK will be at graduate level, underlining the problem of underqualification in the country. The report added: "The gap can be filled in the future with more graduates with the skills that are valuable to employers."
Here are five areas in need of graduates in the UK:
Tech
More than 1.9 million STEM professionals, including in areas such as computing and engineering, will be needed in the UK by 2035.
Computer programming is also expected to grow the most by 2035.

More than 1 million health professionals (such as doctors and nurses) will also be needed by 2035.
Education
